About
Heather Abshire is a New York-born painter currently based in Connecticut whose work explores the complexities of human nature and the subtle threads of shared experience. Working primarily in oil paint, Abshire navigates the space between figuration and abstraction to examine themes of mental health, femininity, and emotional intimacy. She obtained her BFA along with a dual minor in painting and art history from Marywood University in 2014. From 2017 through 2019, Heather undertook the role of co-curator for a private corporate art collection. Abshire’s work has been exhibited nationally, including features with Saatchi’s The Other Art Fair, The Painting Center and Visionary Projects. Most recently, she completed an artist residency and presented her debut solo exhibition with Carrie Able Gallery.

Statement
Centered on human connection, each painting traces the subtle threads of feeling and memory that exist just beneath the surface. Through colorful figures, dreamlike forms and condensed space, I draw from personal experience to examine themes of mental health, femininity and human nature. The figures are not portraits but embodiments of lived tension, suspended in moments that hold intimacy and discomfort in equal measure.
Each work becomes a site of containment; an attempt to give form to what feels unseen and unmanageable. The narratives remain deeply personal yet broadly resonant, reshaping emotion into structure and turning vulnerability into a shared visual language.
